THAILAND CELEBRATING 70 YEARS OF DIPLOMATIC TIES WITH MYANMAR
Client: Ministry of Culture Thailand | Special Thanks: Jean-Pierre A. Verbiest
Traditions are the foundation of our culture and identity, and Thailand and Myanmar share many traditions. The Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Thailand Myanmar Diplomatic Relations, the Embassy organised the 'Khon: Masked Dance Performance of Thailand' in the three major cities of Myanmar: June 19 at the National Theatre in Yangon, June 21 at MICC II in Nay Pyi Taw, and on June 23 at Mandalay National Theatre.
The masked dance was performed by the Royal Dance Troupe of the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, Thailand. They will be joined by the Myanmar Cultural Troupe of the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture. It has featured four beautiful scenes from the Ramakien, a Thai national epic adapted from the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. This included the opening scene of the Ramakien, the lifting of the bow, the abduction of the heroine Sita, and the battle between the ideal king, Rama, and the demon king, Thotsakan.
